Reliant K Music Review

Relient K: Personally my favorite band. They formed in 1998, so they’ve been around for a while. They have sold over 2 million records, with three albums going gold. One word to describe Relient K would be amazing. A few words would be flip boom-bastic double fantastic and awesome. They have hilarious, witty, and sarcastic lyrics that make you laugh but also have serious, sobering lyrics that make you think.

Relient K’s awesome guitar parts, mind-blowing piano parts, amazing drum beats and catchy bass licks, paired with their inspiring lyrics make them my favorite band, and I hope you’ll like them too! They have released a lot of different albums, but I’m just going to go over their 6 LPs.

Their very first album self titled, Relient K, released April 25, 2000 was more of a punk album. This album has hilarious songs about wanting to go back in time like “Marty McFly” and serious songs about how sometimes we just want life to be softer or easier on us. Relient K’s second album released August 28, 2001 and was entitled “The Anatomy of The Tongue In Cheek.” It is another great album because they continue to make you laugh but bring you back down with some serious acoustic/piano songs that amaze you. I never get tired of listening to this album. The third album, “Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…But Three Do,” released March 11, 2003 was a little different from their last two albums, but they’ve kept their originality. They still have those lyrics that make you think, “How in the world did they come up with that?” In my opinion this is one of their best albums. “Mmhmm,” their fourth album, released November 2, 2004 and definitely shows the band is maturing. The lyrics are more serious, but they haven’t completely abandoned the silly songs. This may be their best album, but it’s hard to choose! Their fifth album, “Five Score And Seven Years Ago,” released March 6, 2007. It is a little different than others, but still good. The album starts off with an a cappella track about Abraham Lincoln and pleading the fifth, and it ends with a breathtaking 11 minute song about a guy on his deathbed looking back on his life. I’m always up for listening to this album. Relient K’s sixth and newest album, “Forget And Not Slow Down,” was released October 6, 2009, and is epic. It has been labeled a “break up” album, but not for the reason you may think. The lead singer, Matt, had just broken up with his fiancé, and a lot of the songs are about that. This is one of their best albums; I just can’t choose a favorite!

They are amazing musicians. Every single one of them is very talented, and I hope you’ll check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/relientk.
