Tonight I heard a three year old say these words in a spontaneous prayer. He walked in and said, “I want to pray for everyone.” It was the most honest and to the point prayer I have heard in a long time. He just talked to God.
The prayer went a little like this:
“God, I thank you for today. You save us, God. Okay? You are supposed to save us. So, I tell you to save us, God. Save us because we are the prayers of you. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
He talked to God like he was talks to everyone. He was honest and to the point. He didn’t try to be fancy or prim and proper. He just told God what he wanted, thanked Him for it, and was done. How do you talk to God? Do you talk to Him at all? Do you let thoughts like, “I’m not a good speaker”, “I don’t sound smart or eloquent”, or “I don’t know how to pray “right,” keep you from talking to God?
Know this, Moses stuttered when he spoke, David was just a shepherd boy without an education, and then there is everyone in the world who isn’t “right” and God listens to all of them. He knows what we need.
Matthew 6:7-8 tells us not to babble on like the people of other religions do. It tells us to just talk to God because He knows what we need before we even ask Him. God doesn’t want to hear a bunch of thees and thous when we pray. He just wants to hear us talk to Him. He is here to save us, okay. You don’t have to prepare a speech and present it the way you would for your Speech 101 class. Just talk like the three year old I heard today.

I totally agree! This year everyday at lunch my friends and I would take turns praying over the food and thanking God for it.. When I prayed it was just a quick thanks for this and could you please help me do ok on that test? (Something along those lines lol) but when my 3 other friends prayed it seemed to be the same prayer every time. Its like so many people have to do it a certain way, like they don’t even know what prayings about anymore. Or they never did
